On January 15th, local artist Bryan Guglielmi launched his solo show Refraction at Legend Galleries. Bryan’s unique application of light and darkness in his paintings is as captivating as the beauty of Philadelphia often explored in his art. His paintings encourage us to take a moment out of our busy lives, and appreciate the simplistic elegance of our city. In his painting 23rd and Chestnut and Snow Tracks in West Philly, Bryan uses darks and lights to demonstrate a beautiful contrast: a snow covered street blanketed in darkness, and the brilliant light that materializes unexpectedly from the backdrop. The message that light exists even in the dead of night is subtle, yet inspiring.
Another notable work is the haunting Blood Money. While the painting depicts an ordinary one-hundred-dollar bill, Bryan’s choice of color, a vivid, blood red, suggests an obscured message that is far from ordinary. Experience the world through the eyes of Bryan Guglielmi. Refraction will be available for your viewing pleasure at Legend Galleries until February 15th.
